Booking Japan Airlines With Points
Capital One, Bilt, and Rove all transfer to Japan Airlines - but currently, Capital One has a 30% transfer bonus going on through April 30.
That 30% bonus makes the transfer ratio nearly 1:1 (normally 4:3).
It's also the second time Capital One has launched a transfer bonus to Japan Airlines. (Hey Capital One, just make the regular transfer ratio 1:1 already!)
So let’s try to find some flights to Japan!
Follow these steps to run an award search once you’re on the Japan Airlines website.
First, click “JAL Mileage Bank” at the top of the website.
Next, click “JAL Award Tickets.”
Then, click “JAL International Award Ticket.”
And FINALLY, you’ll be able to run an award search.
Here’s a little secret! 🙊
Run a sample search and scroll down on the results page - look for “Go to calendar”.
This is gonna save you TONS of time.
Instead of going day by day, you can view a two-week calendar of available flights.
The best points/miles price in business class from the USA to Tokyo is typically 55,000 miles...
However, a more realistic price you could end up paying is 70,000 - 80,000 miles.
We searched Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Dallas to Tokyo - but availability is pretty selective right now.
It’s almost better to wait for a better deal when pricing is that high or find an alternative booking option like a different fare class.
Economy starts around 27,000 points and premium economy starts at 40,000 points.
You’ll need to have a Japan Airlines account open for 7 days before you can transfer any flexible point currency.
So if you sign up today, you can run some award searches and become familiar with the Japan Airlines website before the transfer bonus expires.
Again, Capital One's 30% transfer bonus is going to be ending on April 30, so this is your best chance to transfer C1 Miles at right around a 1:1 rate.
If you're running low on C1 Miles, Bilt Points actually transfer to Japan Airlines at a 1:1 rate at all times.
