DoorDash Adds $20 Minimum

Chase and DoorDash have a partnership through December 2027.

Popular cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and the Chase Sapphire Preferred® include multiple or single non-restaurant DoorDash credits each month, respectively.

But those credits just got harder to use for certain cardholders - and that's because DoorDash just implemented a $20 minimum order for select pickup orders.

The old strategy:

  • Place a pickup order for around $10

  • Use the $10 non-restaurant credit

  • Get snacks or essentials for free

The $20 minimum order now complicates things - certain stores require the minimum and others stores may not.

The new strategy:

  • Check which stores were affected

  • Use those stores for pickup orders

  • OR opt for delivery orders instead

Nic here - I checked 5 stores eligible for pickup in my area - two gas station convenience stores, two adult beverage stores, and one coffee shop.

Both gas stations and beverage stores required the $20 minimum.

The coffee shop was the only one that didn’t require the $20 minimum - but they most likely code as a restaurant and the $10 non-restaurant credit couldn’t be used.

Other delivery options for this credit include grocery stores or large retailers.

Many delivery options include a $12 minimum order - so after tax, tip, a service fee, and the $10 credit, you can get your total around $6 or $7.

Here’s a sample order where I basically got BOGO ice cream pints:

With a $20 minimum for pickup, people are spending at least $10 for orders.

That’s why we never consider these credits at 100% face value.

Delivery may be the cheaper option moving forward…

The game got harder, but it’s still worth playing and adapting!
