People Are Financing Coachella
Justin Bieber got paid $10 million to watch YouTube videos during his headliner performance at Coachella this past weekend.
Fans had mixed reviews, but that’s beside the point we’re making today.
A report found that roughly 60% of Coachella music festival attendees used a payment plan to afford tickets.
This report from Billboard last year is pretty concerning, as this trend was projected to continue in 2026 as well.
Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) is growing at a rapid pace and allows people to make smaller payments on large purchases over time.
To be clear - BNPL and similar payment plans are not something that's 100% bad for everyone every time.
There are examples of when these services could make sense for some people, especially when BNPL is used to finance necessities.
BUT it's highly unlikely that buying Coachella tickets could be classified as a "necessity" - so are these festival attendees really prioritizing the right things with their money?
Society has normalized instant gratification as a substitute for saving.
We’ve gotten too comfortable prioritizing purchases over smart financial habits.
Save Now Pay Later is the motto we stick with here at Wiser Wallet. 👍
