Battling Gas Prices Everyday

The average gas price in the US is currently $4.11 per gallon, according to AAA.

Both Nic and I live in an expensive gas state (Pennsylvania) for filling up our tanks.

So today, it felt right to start a running list of ideas to help lower gas prices.

Let us know if you have other ideas by replying back to this email!

1️⃣ Join A Rewards Program

One of the largest grocery store chains here in the Northeast has a loyalty program where you can earn points based on spending.

Then you can take those points and use them at their branded gas stations.

$600 in grocery spend would earn 60 cents off per gallon as an example, capped at 25 gallons.

25 gallons X 60 cents off = $15 saved

Other gas stations and retailers in your area may offer something similar - and the programs are usually free to join.

2️⃣ Wholesale Gas Station

Think Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s.

Wholesalers often have discounted gas stations close to their stores and are available if you hold a membership.

Prices range between 10 - 50 cents cheaper than a regular gas station.

Lines may be longer, but you could save around $5 - $10 per fill up.

3️⃣ Lower Other Auto Costs

Saving a few dollars at the pump?

That’s a small win worth celebrating...

But the truth is that other car expenses can add up quickly too.

An even BIGGER win is lowering your car insurance premium.

This could potentially save you hundreds and it’s completely free to check by using a tool like the one below:

We shop around for car insurance every year by using this tool, so give it a shot!

4️⃣ Check Maps

Google Maps lets you check gas prices directly from their app.

Other apps do the same like AAA, Gas Buddy, and GasGuru.

So next time you need to fill up on gas, try shopping around on your phone!

5️⃣ Fill Up When Traveling

Obviously don’t go too far out of your way for this, but filling up in another state can sometimes lead to savings too.

Whenever I'm visiting family in Maryland (Nic here), my tank usually gets filled.

Prices can fluctuate as much as a $1 per gallon - so that could $10 - $20 of savings per gas station visit right there!
