Buy Now Pay Maybe (Stay Away)
You’ve probably never heard of the company Tuyo, and neither did we until a few days ago.
When you look up Tuyo on Google, you see a top website link saying:
Tuyo | Buy Now, Pay Maybe
Oh, goodness!
On the right side of the screen, a YouTube link also pops up for a song titled Tuyo by Rodrigo Amarante.
The Tuyo song is famous for being the theme song of the popular show Narcos - a series that chronicles the explosive rise and fall of the global cocaine trade with a heavy focus on drug kingpins like Pablo Escobar and the Cali Cartel.
The fact that a company exists and has the same name as a theme song for a drug and crime show tells you all you need to know…
We should stop the article right here, but we’ve gotta unload on what Tuyo represents and why you should avoid it entirely.
Tuyo advertises their company as a Buy Now, Pay Maybe service attached with a debit card that might decide not charge you for purchases.
So cardholders pay with their card, and then Tuyo might pay for it.
This business idea is capitalizing on the Buy Now, Pay Later craze and ultimately is glorified gambling at its finest that might cause unnecessary spending in the hopes that a purchase might be covered.
Even worse, the company also advertises “Users of Tuyo are not just customers, but owners” by advertising their own crypto currency coin attached to the rewards program.
Us: *Sigh* 🙄
Some reddit users have signed up, used the card minimally, and reported earning some purchases for free, essentially making the card an unstructured “cash back card.”
But the truth is that there’s so much value people would miss out by using this card versus traditional credit cards with rewards.
Tuyo is likely not advertising to card maximizers like many of us - instead they are targeting people interested in gambling, cryptocurrency, and buy now pay later.
