Chase Freedom Flex Just Got Updated
The Chase Freedom Flex® just got an important update (including a new look), so here's everything you need to know about it!
1️⃣ No Foreign Transaction Fees
The Freedom Flex can now be used safely while traveling internationally, as all foreign transaction fees will be waived.
This is a great update! Especially for a no annual fee credit card.
So if you're traveling outside of the US anytime soon, the Freedom Flex is now a good option to use!
2️⃣ Preview 5% Categories Earlier
In the past, Chase would announce the 5% rotating categories on the Freedom Flex a little over 2 weeks before the start of a new quarter.
But now, Chase will allow us to see these 5% categories one quarter in advance.
For example, they just announced that for Q1 of 2027, the categories will be top streaming services and grocery stores (excluding Walmart and Target).
Wait, aren't grocery stores one of the rotating categories for Q4 of 2026 as well?
Yes! So that means we are getting 6 straight months of earning 5% (or really 5X Ultimate Rewards Points) from October of 2026 through March of 2027.
It's still 5% / 5X points on up to $1,500 of spending in these rotating categories per quarter though - so just keep that in mind.
Chase says that they are doing this early preview so that cardmembers can "plan purchases and maximize rewards on everyday spending".
We really like this!
3️⃣ New Limited-Time Welcome Offer
For a limited time, new Freedom Flex cardmembers can earn a $250 bonus after spending $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.
That's an $50 increase from the previous offer for the same minimum spend amount in the first 3 months.
But again, as a reminder, this card actually earns Ultimate Rewards Points - so you're really earning 25,000 points here.
That's a good deal, and you can combine these points with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve® to get even more value towards travel.
4️⃣ Points Boost Offers
Chase is bringing their Points Boost feature to the Freedom Flex as well.
Now, when redeeming points on select hotels booked through Chase Travel, your Ultimate Rewards Points can be worth up to 10% more with the Chase Freedom Flex.
Honestly though, this isn't anything that we think is worth it.
You're better off combining your points from the Freedom Flex with a Sapphire Card to get better Points Boost values...
Or better yet, you can get even more value by transferring your points with one of those Sapphire Cards instead!
5️⃣ New Card Design
Chase has decided to also update the card art for the Freedom Flex with what they are saying is a "deeper blue background and a refined, upward-sloping stardust graphic".
We think it's a cool new look!
This new design is available for both new and existing cardmembers.

While it's not a massive update, it's always nice to see mostly positive changes.
The only negative is that this card is losing it's cell phone protection benefit.
