Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card Refresh

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is going to look different starting on June 15, 2026.

Changes aremostly positive, but with a catch of course!

Daniel here - I was able to cover the card changes in more detail with my latest Youtube video, so I would really appreciate it if you could check that out and let me know your thoughts!

Let’s break it all down today, newsletter style:

The Upgrades

  • 3x on vacation homes added

  • 3x on gas & EV charging added

  • $50 Chase Travel hotel credit increased to $100

  • $120 Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, and NEXUS credit added

  • Complimentary Apple TV subscription for 1 year (terms apply)

  • Emergency Evacuation and Transportation coverage added

A ton of upgrades - but the best part?

The $95 annual fee remains the same.

3x on gas and EV charging is much more competitive with other mid tier travel cards like the Citi Strata Premier, for example.

We would’ve loved the 3x online grocery multiplier to become a 3x in-store grocery multiplier, but unfortunately that category change didn’t make the cut.

3x on vacation homes is still a pleasant surprise though, since many travelers and families opt for places like Airbnb and Vrbo instead of hotel stays.

You can also book vacation homes inside of the Chase portal and earn 5x Chase UR Points - but many people probably book direct, making this credit useful.

The $50 Chase Travel hotel credit doubling to $100 is a huge plus, and alone now covers the $95 annual fee.

“If you have already received your $50 Chase Travel Hotel statement in this anniversary year, you will receive an additional $50 to use - starting 6/15. You will then receive a full $100 at the start of your next anniversary year,” according to a Chase social media page.

The $120 Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, and NEXUS credit is also helpful to travelers who want expedited security when traveling domestically and internationally.

An airport security credit like this is very rare for mid-tier cards - only this card competes with the CSP to include Global Entry and TSA PreCheck.

That’s $30 in value each year since the credit covers a purchase every four years and helps to offset the annual fee as well ($120 / 4 years = $30 per year).

The complimentary Apple TV subscription must be activated by December 31, 2026 (terms apply) and can be done through the Benefits & Rewards section in your Chase account.

Lastly, the addition of Emergency Evacuation and Transportation coverage adds extra protection when traveling.

Chase is calling it the most comprehensive suite of travel protections in its class, and we can't argue that!

Hopefully you never have to use the protections, but they are available if something does happen.

HOWEVER...

This refresh wouldn’t be possible without a catch, so now we have:

The Downgrades

  • 10% Anniversary Bonus discontinued

  • Hyatt Transfer Rate becomes 4:3 (big ouch)

First, the 10% Anniversary Bonus will be discontinued, effective immediately for cardmembers who apply on or after June 15, 2026.

For cardmembers who applied prior to June 15, 2026, eligible purchases made through October 1, 2026, will continue to earn the 10% bonus.

Second (and this is an important one), Ultimate Rewards Points with the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card will begin to transfer to World of Hyatt at a 4:3 rate - a devaluation from the previous 1:1 transfer rate.

For cardmembers who apply on or after June 15, 2026, this will be effective immediately. But for cardmembers who applied prior to June 15, 2026, this will be effective on October 1, 2026.

Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card cardholders also will be devalued to a 4:3 transfer ratio starting October 1, 2026.

Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders will maintain the 1:1 Hyatt transfer ratio.

This 4:3 transfer ratio devaluation stings the most and there’s no way to sugarcoat this one…

Transferring to Hyatt from the CSP now costs 33% more:

Say you wanted to do a 4-night Hyatt stay for 25,000 points per night for 100,000 points total.

You would need to transfer 133,333 points (134,000 points for 1,000 point increments) from the CSP to Hyatt.

Not ideal at all!

Our Wise Take

We’ve seen the annual fee remain at $95 since 2009 and a 2026 refresh has ensured that will be the case for years to come.

Chase has been the easiest ecosystem for beginners and the gold standard for redeeming points and miles consistently.

While other issuers have reduced loyalty program ratios, Chase held strong and was the only issuer to offer every loyalty program at a 1:1 ratio

That’s now changed…

This is a big indicator for future program and transfer ratio devaluations - credit card maximizers who use points for transfer partners are getting squeezed.

The math may not line up for Hyatt transfers and the CSP anymore, but Chase is still the premier program for getting into the game and utilizing other transfer partners.

Chase added a ton of value and we believe most cardholders will benefit from the refresh.

In our opinion, the Chase Sapphire Preferred®Card is still one of the best credit cards on the market, especially for its low $95 annual fee.

Let us know your thoughts by replying to this email!

Do the enhanced features and benefits make the card even better now? Or does the new 4:3 Hyatt transfer rate outweigh all of the positive updates?

Even though these changes aren’t all good news, we think the card still can be worth it for almost anyone to check out during their credit card journey.
