Citi Custom Cash is Gone
The other day, some credible rumors started floating around the internet that Citi would be discontinuing their popular Custom Cash card by the end of this week.
Turns out those rumors were true, because Citi's website now says this:
Citi is no longer accepting applications for the Citi Custom Cash® Card product as of May 28, 2026. If you are interested in a cash back card, you are welcome to apply for the Citi Double Cash® Card. Existing Citi Custom Cash cardmembers are not impacted and can continue to use their card and enjoy its benefits.
This is obviously very disappointing to hear.
The only good news from this is that existing cardmembers will still be able to continue using the Custom Cash.
We've constantly listed this as one of the best credit card on the market since it launched back in 2021 - so many of you hopefully already added this card to your wallet.
In our opinion, the Custom Cash was almost too good to be true:
No annual fee
5% back (5X Thank You Points) on your top spend category each billing cycle
$200 welcome offer (20,000 Thank You Points) after meeting minimum spend
The card is also a key part of the Citi Trifecta credit card setup, which has been growing in popularity - especially since Citi added American Airlines as a transfer partner.
That's because you can combine the points earned from the Custom Cash with other Citi cards that transfer points like the Strata Premier and Strata Elite.
This just further proves that if something seems too good to be true in the credit card game, it will probably eventually get devalued (or disappear).
That's why we recommend always adapting your strategy because nothing is ever permanent when it comes to good credit cards!
So while it is sad to see the Custom Cash go away for new customers, we'll continue using this card in our credit card setup...
Unless Citi eventually decides to take the card away from existing customers too.
