Finnair Redemption Example

With a bunch of airlines increasing taxes and fees on award flights, here’s an alternative approach worth considering for a great price point and low fees over to Europe.

We’re talking about the Finnair Plus program - not talked about very much and often slept on.

1️⃣ Search For Availability

Our favorite tool Seats.Aero can search this program.

Simply, select Finnair Plus under the “Explore” tab.

Now filter the program from North America to Europe.

Then, you’ll be able to select airports - choose from one below for the best results:

  • ORD, DFW, LAX, MIA, JFK, YYZ

This will search Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, or Toronto directly to Helsinki, Finland.

2️⃣ Find Dates and Flights

Filter results by economy, premium economy or business class.

The most availability we found is about 10-12 months out - we end up selecting a random date in March 2027.

3️⃣ Know Which Points to Transfer

Take the results from Seats.Aero and search the exact day on the Finnair website after logging into your account.

Capital One and Rove miles transfer directly to Finnair.

What’s even cooler about this redemption - Finnair uses Avios points currency.

So you can transfer from a flexible point currency to British Airways for example and then British Airways to Finnair.

This can be done at Avios.com, only takes a few minutes, and is completely free to do.

4️⃣ Calculate CPP Value

Here’s the price points for each class:

And the CPP is solid:

  • Economy: 2.22 CPP

  • Premium Economy: 3.01 CPP

  • Business: 7.15 CPP

5️⃣ Transfer Points & Book It

Really decent value for all three fare classes AND taxes and fees are extremely low compared to other programs.

$86 in economy and around $150 for business…

Even the 44k point price for premium economy is juicy!

We’ll cover another Finnair example in the future.
