Popular Hotel Credit Patched

A popular hotel credit workaround on Chase Sapphire Preferred Card® has been patched and is no longer working according to data points online.

Previously, cardholders could book a hotel stay through the Chase Travel℠ portal, earn the $50 hotel credit, and then cancel the hotel reservation (and in turn, keep $50).

Now, Chase is reclaiming the credit when a cardholder cancels a hotel reservation.

We’re not surprised to see this fixed, especially since the hotel credit recently increased to $100 for new and existing users from June 15 onward (while keeping the same $95 annual fee).

Similar workarounds like the United Travel Bank credit and Delta credits on cards from different issuers have also been corrected in 2026.

We do not recommend any “gaming” and caution against violating terms and conditions for various credit cards.

Having an account flagged or shut down is a worst case scenario and we don’t want you to experience that!
