AAA Card Nerf Coming Soon
One of the most popular (but underrated) cash back credit cards for grocery spend is surprisingly a card from AAA.
The AAA Daily Advantage Visa Signature® credit card has the following benefits:
5% cash back on grocery store purchases
3% cash back on gas and electric vehicle-charging stations, wholesale clubs, streaming services, pharmacy, and purchases at AAA
1% cash back on all other purchases
No annual fee
No foreign transaction fees
A maximum of $500 cash back can be earned in a calendar year on grocery stores, wholesale clubs, and gas stations combined...
So if you were to only use this Daily Advantage card for groceries, then you could spend $10,000 per year (about $833 per month on average) while earning 5% back to max out the $500 of cash back under these current terms.
We think this is such a great deal that we actually included this card as the cash back "Grocery Card" in our recent YouTube video for The Only 5 Credit Cards You Need in 2026.
Unfortunately though, it appears at that this card will be nerfed sometime soon.
That's because Comenity Capital Bank (the issuer of AAA cards) recently sent out a survey to cardholders about some potential changes.
There are a number of details, but one Reddit user summarized 2 possible packages of what this card could be changed into:
Package 1:
5% cash back on AAA membership
3% cash back on grocery stores, gas and EV charging stations, pharmacies, streaming services
1% cash back on all other purchases
Package 2:
5% cash back on AAA membership and insurance (including home, auto, and life insurance)
4% cash back on grocery stores
3% cash back on gas and EV charging stations, wholesale clubs
1% cash back on all other purchases
To us, Package 2 sounds like the better option here...
But either one of these packages would still result in losing the 5% cash back on groceries benefit that people currently get this card to take advantage of.
We'll see if and when any changes are announced for this AAA card.
Typically though, when a credit card issuer sends out a survey like this, changes will be coming.
It's just a matter of when.
