Alaska Airlines Major Announcements
Alaska Airlines made some MAJOR announcements earlier this week that could have huge points and miles implications…
The Changes
1️⃣ New Bank Currency
Select Bank of America credit cards will allow transfers to Alaska Airlines starting in 2027.
Bank of America becomes the 8th major flexible point currency to join the transfer partner space and just the 2nd currency (Bilt) with transfers to Alaska.
They issue Alaska credit cards already, so the move seems very natural for their first transfer partner.
More banks will be available for Alaska transfers as well - we don’t know the timing or who quite yet, but we’re excited for that!
2️⃣ Card Updates
Alaska mentioned an “Expanding lineup of card products, including an Atmos Rewards debit card planned for early 2027.”
Fun fact, you can join the waitlist for that Atmos™ Rewards debit card and get a 20% discount code for a future flight just for registering, no card application needed.
3️⃣ Unique Way to Earn
As of yesterday, flyers now have the option for three different ways to earn points:
distance traveled
price paid
segments flown
Choose the one that’ll earn you the most!
4️⃣ Refreshed Classes
Alaska unveiled new business class cabins and premium economy on select airplanes.
Just look at Aurora Suites coming in 2028…🤩
5️⃣ Lounges
Alaska is building four airport lounges, with two at their headquarters in Seattle (SEA), as well as one each at San Diego (SAN) and Honolulu (HNL).
Our Wise Take
We absolutely love the innovation by giving more access to one of the best airline programs.
The new lounges, business class seats, and premium economy offerings are also nice touches!
At the same time, adding major point currencies could be really great in the short term upon launch - but it’ll likely eventually force devaluations with the high amounts of Atmos points that'll be floating around.
