Capital One & Discover Merger Updates

Some Discover users were recently sent emails about cards transitioning to Capital One on July 27, 2026.

More information and FAQs on a Capital One website also explained some updates.

Most importantly, will the Discover It card still be eligible for the 5% cash back?

Yes. You can continue to enjoy the 5% cash back rewards program with your Discover it Cash Back card or Discover More card. You'll still need to activate each quarter to continue earning 5% cash back on the eligible categories for purchases up to $1,500.

Cardholders will soon access their account inside of the Capital One website and app.

Primary cardholders will not receive a new card and can continue using the card as normal.

An interesting development we are seeing right now…

Capital One also listed new benefits getting added once Discover cards are transitioned:

The most interesting one is the “Earn 5% cashback or 5X miles on hotels and rental cars booked with Capital One Travel.”

Similar language exists on the Capital One Venture and the Capital One Savor.

The Venture card already earns Capital One Miles, but the Savor card earns cash back that can be converted to Capital One Miles.

So the ultimate question, will Discover cardholders be able to transfer cash back to Capital One Miles?

No confirmation has been made by Capital One yet, but the ability to do so would be HUGE news - and language on the benefits tab are hinting at a yes.

A cashback match in year one and 5% rotating categories means earning extra Capital One Miles could be in the cards later this year! (see what we did there 😉)

We have to wait and see though.
