A friendly nudge that PayPal Rewards is making massive changes to their loyalty program starting on August 1, 2026.
Cash back will no longer be redeemable directly into a bank account, PayPal balance, or debit card.
You can still redeem PayPal Rewards Points using an option listed above, but you must do so before 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time on August 1, 2026.
Points will soon be tied to PayPal’s own program - like using points at an eligible merchant at checkout - turning the popular rewards system into a shell of what it used to be.
PayPal is advertising this as “streamlining its rewards program to deliver instant value at checkout.”
No fancy marketing required - this is a major devaluation.
When a loyalty program goes from simple to complicated, it favors the issuer.
The PayPal Debit Card allows cardholders to earn 5% cash back on a monthly category, up to $1,000 in spending per month.
Popular categories include restaurants, groceries, gas, rideshare, and public transit.
The elevated earnings and easy cash back options were fun while it lasted!
